Carly and I have been friends since we met at Earl  McGrath’s apartment in  New York in the 1970s. Earl McGrath was the president of Rolling Stone Records at the time, he nicknamed us “The Bookends” because we looked alike in profile. Years later, I was having lunch with Carly at the River Cafe in Brooklyn. She was laughing and as she threw her head back, her sunglasses caught the reflection of Manhattan’s World Trade Centre towers across the river.
