Jill Furmanovsky recalls, “He generously offered to drive me around Santa Rosa in his beat-up car to interesting locations, like the old railway line. He really put himself out to help me get a variety of pictures. It surprised me because I’d heard he didn’t like doing press. Mind you, if you do some research you can see that just about every picture of Tom Waits ever taken is great, so clearly he knows the power of visual language.”
